A Compelling Story

Ten Marks and a Train Ticket Bennos’s Escape To Freedom By: Susy Goldstein, Gina Hamilton and Wendy Share
In the book “Ten Marks And A Train Ticket” written by: Susy Goldstein, Gina Hamilton and Wendy Share, it talks about a Jewish family of five. That family of five is split up as soon as little Benno turns nine years old on January 27, 1939 Berlin Germany, as little as he knew he and his big brother (Heinz) is being sent away to Holland and further on to better safety.

During this project I made a “ My Timetoast

Page 34:
The image that stands out for me is when Benno and Heinz start to get onto the train to leave to Holland. It stands out for me because it will be the last  time Benno and Heinz will see there parents.

Page 42-43: “There are Nazi guards out there it looks like they are searching the trains”
This is important to the story because this is when Benno and Heinz could be caught and maybe even put in Auschwitz (German Concentration Camp)

I thought this was a very interesting story because it was like this other book that I have read before(The Book Thief). It’s sort of the same unique kind of story because there are both kind of the same situation, except in The Book Thief there is only one Jew(Max) trying to escape the horrid Nazi execution system. Also they have the same time in the story (when Hitler was raising to power).

Why have they picked Heinz, Benno and six others to leave the Emmakinderhuis?
What had happened to all of the other Jewish refugees that were in Emmakinderhuis?
