A soft indentation—
3 toes—
mark the ground
an obvious reminder
of what has seen this place before.
I feel inspired
to gaze at the gooky print,
to feel special at my experience.
I want to see the turkey.
Tail feathers spread as wide as a 10 pound trout
speeding through the stream—
As an animal stares me down
thin legs are
Threatening to give way
and fly away.
Tiny red head
seeking in the cold,
I want to see it fly
Tail feathers spread apart,
its 3 pronged feet
hitting the ground,
living in a huge ecosystem.
I’m a herbivore.
Biotic is in my brain.
Somehow I make a living
dodging bullets everywhere I go.
In the winter,spring
and fall—
I hear the fanning of the tail feathers.
I walk closer and
like a silent mouse,
I sneak a peak.
